Here's where Royal Roads made headlines this week: 

  • Royal Roads President Philip Steenkamp and Environment and Sustainability Professor Sarah Wolfe wrote an article for The Conversation Canada on how universities can build connections with their communities to help address the climate crisis. 

  • The 2026 National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration held at Royal Roads University on the traditional Lands of the Lekwungen-speaking Peoples, the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations, was highlighted by Victoria Times Colonist, Victoria News, and CHEK News.  

  • Times Colonist interviewed Debora Linehan, Vice-President Academic and Provost, about the benefits of partnerships in the local and wider academic community, and Academica covered RRU’s new partnership with BCIT.  

  • Robin Cox, professor of Environment and Sustainability, spoke with CBC Radio West about the measures Canadian cities are using to adapt to climate change and keep people safe during extreme heat. 

  • Geoffrey Bird, professor of Communication and Culture, is holding a screening of Story Pole: Indigenous Veterans and the Tallest Pole in the World  July 2 at the IMAX theatre at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria made event listings around town, including a mention in The Capital Daily newsletter.
