As a child, Liam Moise dreamed of becoming a professional mountain biker—a goal he achieved early on when he landed a job as a heli-bike guide.

"Once I got that, it was clear fun without purpose wasn’t what I wanted my life to be about.”

Today, Moise, a Royal Roads University (RRU) graduate, is driven by a larger purpose—creating lasting change in the sustainability sector through his company, Nexus Impacts. He wants to align some of the world’s most powerful companies with meaningful initiatives that generate profit while transforming lives. Moise believes this approach has the potential to “change more than communities; it could change generations.”

Founded in December 2022 by three co-founders, including Moise, Nexus Impacts is a for-profit sustainable impact brokerage that supports verified organizations already making positive social and environmental contributions. Nexus Impacts offers guaranteed outcomes for every dollar contributed, effectively ensuring donated money drives real, measurable change.

Moise’s vision is to amplify these efforts, ensuring they not only continue but also expand, driving significant change in communities worldwide.

Moise's journey as a changemaker began during his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) studies at RRU. He credits the university’s emphasis on practical, real-world applications with preparing him for the complexities of global sustainability challenges.

“I was expecting to learn how to make money by being more sustainable, environmentally and socially,” says Moise. “Royal Roads’ approach surpassed my expectations in almost every way.”

A particularly influential course explored the intricacies of globalization and externalities and led him to a critical conclusion: for sustainability initiatives to be truly effective, they must be economically viable. “If there is going to be a solution to certain social and environmental challenges, it actually has to make money rather than cost money,” he says.

This insight was the catalyst for Nexus Impacts. Instead of creating new initiatives, Moise and his co-founders choose to help existing organizations scale their impact by connecting them with the financial resources and broader skills training they need to thrive.

Collaboration is at the core of Moise’s work. He refers to charitable partners and on-the-ground teams as "teammates," emphasizing the importance of constant communication and support. As Nexus Impacts expands, nearing partnerships with seven corporate donors, Moise is excited about the company's growth.

"Our plan is to continue providing corporations with opportunities to meet their corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals in a way that verifies the impact of every dollar they spend," he notes.

Moise says that RRU’s focus on applied learning and real-world integration provided the foundation needed to launch Nexus Impacts. He advises those considering a similar path to choose RRU if they seek an academic experience that mirrors the marketplace, emphasizing that it’s not just a program but a process that equips students for real-world challenges.

“It really did resemble the real world,” he says.
