The Urban Development Institute - Capital Region (UDI-CR) and Royal Roads University announced a groundbreaking partnership that merges industry expertise with academic excellence. Together, they have developed the Real Estate Development Micro-Credential, an innovative program designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the dynamic field of real estate and urban development.

Building upon the success of UDI-CR’s Real Estate and Development (RaD) Program, this new micro-credential provides an integrated pathway for professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of real estate development. Delivered virtually and part-time over nine months, the RaD Program combines practical industry insights with theoretical foundations. Participants who complete the certificate program can advance their learning journey through an assessed project at Royal Roads University to earn the Real Estate Development Micro-Credential.

Program Highlights:

• Comprehensive Curriculum: Topics include financial modeling, land acquisition, concept development, project financing, navigating governing legislation, managing complex approvals, community engagement strategies, marketing and sales, and preparing for construction.

• Flexible Learning: Designed for working professionals, the program’s part-time, virtual format allows participants to balance their education with career commitments.

• Industry-Aligned Outcomes: Graduates will gain practical skills to navigate the multifaceted challenges of real estate development and emerge with enhanced knowledge and understanding of the field.

“This partnership represents a significant step forward in fostering a new generation of professionals equipped to handle the complexities of urban development,” said Kathy Whitcher, UDI Capital Region’s Executive Director. “By combining UDI-CR’s industry-driven expertise with Royal Roads University’s academic excellence, we are delivering a program that addresses real-world challenges and opportunities.”

"We are proud to collaborate with UDI Capital Region on this innovative program," said Dr. Zoë MacLeod, Associate Vice-President, Professional and Continuing Studies at Royal Roads University. “The Real Estate Development Micro-Credential reflects our mutual commitment to delivering accessible, industry-relevant education that empowers learners to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving sector. Together, we are equipping professionals with the critical knowledge and practical skills to navigate the complexities of real estate development and make meaningful contributions to their communities.”
