New experiential learning project at RRU Langford
Students seeking ways to align their interests and academics with labour market demand and career goals now have access to a new experiential learning program at RRU Langford, John Horgan Campus.
The project connects post-secondary students in British Columbia’s rapidly growing West Shore region by bringing together the WestShore Chamber of Commerce and members of RRU Langford’s unique collaborative campus including: RRU, Camosun College, and Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC).
Building a Collaborative Experiential Learning Ecosystem
The project will be supported by a newly created Community & Employer Engagement Liaison role. The Liaison will be responsible for engaging students, faculty, employers and community members with RRU Langford campus partners and will enhance access to meaningful experiential learning, support local employers and strengthen the West Shore workforce across five municipalities: Colwood, Highlands, Langford, Metchosin, and View Royal.
This will be done through a variety of work-integrated learning and employer connection opportunities including networking events, meetings, classroom visits and resource materials.
Work-integrated learning paves way for student careers
In partnership with the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER), with support from the Government of Canada, the project will be led by Royal Roads University’s Career Learning and Development (CLD) unit.
“Work-integrated learning is one of the most powerful ways we prepare our students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. When students step into real workplaces, they gain confidence, apply their learning with purpose, and build relationships that can shape the course of their careers,” says Deborah Linehan, vice-president academic and provost at RRU.
For project partner BHER, it’s an opportunity to connect with up-and-coming talent in the Westshore region.

This partnership between BHER and Royal Roads University will not only create more opportunities for students, but will also ensure businesses have access to a more productive, inclusive and job-ready workforce, building a stronger economy for everyone,” says Val Walker, CEO of the Business + Higher Education Roundtable.
The Experiential Learning Ecosystem project will run through to March 2027 at RRU Langford, John Horgan Campus.
