Last class of RRMC 1995 honours its fallen classmates
As part of Homecoming Weekend 2025, the Royal Roads Military College Class of 1995, reunited with ex-cadets to celebrate 85 years of Royal Roads history with laughter, shared memories, and reconnections.
But amidst the fun and festivities, they also gathered for a solemn moment of reflection.
In a moving tribute, the Class of 1995 remembered two fallen classmates: Captain Miles Selby, a Snowbird pilot who died in a training accident in 2004, and Captain Juli-Ann Mackenzie, who was killed during a 2002 search and rescue mission.
“It is important to note that we all made it to our 30-year reunion, however, Miles and Juli-Ann passed away serving our country at 30 and 31 years of age,” says classmate Kael Rennie. “We all have great memories of Miles and Jules, and the main thing we want to do today is honour and remember the two of them.”
Following the dedication ceremony, members of the Class of 1995 in attendance gathered on the Grant Quarterdeck for a reunion portrait.
Members of the ’95 class who were able to attend in person gathered near Hatley Castle to unveil a commemorative bench in honour of Selby and Mackenzie.
Classmates raised over $5,000 in their honour to support the ongoing care of Hatley Park Gardens, ensuring this cherished space continues to inspire future students and visitors.
Royal Roads Military College trained Canada’s military until 1995 when the public post-secondary institution, Royal Roads University, began operations.
