Fowl play in Langford

A giant peacock has been spotted roaming the streets of Langford, leaving residents both baffled and bemused.

Several eyewitnesses reported seeing the unusually large bird strutting throughout the downtown core, prompting a flurry of reactions.

Longtime resident Drew Argyle expressed his frustration.

“Back in my day, animals stayed in their place. Now we’ve got peacocks crossing streets like they pay taxes,” he said.

Others were equally stunned.

“It was so huge, I thought it was a Pokémon,” said Ian Mankey, who reported seeing a seven-foot peacock outside the new Langford campus.

Sarah Dashwood couldn’t believe her eyes on her morning run.

“I thought I was hallucinating from dehydration,” she said.

While wild peacocks are sometimes seen in the area surrounding Royal Roads University, this is the first reported sighting of one of this size.

Royal Roads President Philip Steenkamp was unavailable for comment.

Local authorities have not yet released a statement, but residents are being urged not to feed the peacock and to report any sightings
