Four top tips to start school out right

As a new school year, programs and courses begin, Bojie Yang, Master of Arts in Environment and Management student and student engagement assistant, shares some fun and helpful 'must-dos'.

TIP 1: Goalsetting for greatness

Yang believes in starting the year with a clear vision. Whether you’re looking to crush your academic goals, grow personally or expand your social circle, having a solid game plan will set you up for success.

For inspiration on setting your academic goals, the RRU Library offers resources to help sharpen your study skills. From time management to study skills their learning skills resource hub has you covered.

TIP 2: Backpack bliss

Organize that backpack! Yang’s motto is simple: “A clutter-free bag is the secret to a clutter-free mind.” Pack your essentials — laptop, snacks, water bottle, maybe a charger — and you’ll be ready to tackle the day with ease.

If you run out of snacks or pens, don’t panic!  The Campus Store has school supplies and Habitat Cafe offers a range of pre-packaged food and beverages to help you navigate your day on the go.

TIP 3: Power up your people skills

Reconnect with friends and professors. After a long break, it’s the perfect time to catch up, rebuild connections, and establish a support system for the term ahead.

From student clubs to volunteer experiences and events, RRU Student Life offers many ways to help you make new connections and reignite friendships on campus.

TIP 4: Rewarding routine

Yang’s top advice is to get into a routine. Finding a steady rhythm of study, relaxation and personal time will help you to balance it all as the semester unfolds.

As you think about what you want to include in your day, you might want to check out these services. You’ll find fitness classes, workout equipment and sports at the RRU Recreation Centre, places to recharge outdoors on our campus trails and Hatley Gardens, and a quiet place to work on assignments at the library.

With a bit of planning, Yang says, you can set yourself up for a semester of academic success and make new friends and memories.
