Celebrating Earth Month at Royal Roads

Every April, Royal Roads University celebrates Earth Month, bringing the campus community together to honour our planet and advance climate action and sustainability. Earth Month offers meaningful opportunities for students, staff, faculty, and the wider community to connect with one another, reflect on complex global challenges, and take purposeful action for a more sustainable future.

A Month Dedicated to Climate Action and Community

Earth Month at RRU is more than a series of events—it reflects a university‑wide approach to sustainability that emphasizes learning, relationship‑building, and stewardship. Throughout April, participants are invited to engage in a diverse range of activities that explore climate change, land stewardship, mental wellbeing, social justice, and resilience in a world facing multiple interconnected crises. Earth Month at RRU also recognizes the importance of wellbeing in climate work. Sessions focused on connection, burnout prevention, and emotional resilience create space to process complex global issues while strengthening community across campus.

April 8: Spring Forest Walk -  Healthy Planet Program (registration required)

April 9: Resiliency & Reconnection Circle for RRU Faculty and Staff (registration required)

April 18: Hike to High Ground for tsunami preparedness (drop-in)

April 22: Outdoor Yoga – Healthy Planet Program (registration required)

April 29: Scotch Broom Removal – Healthy Planet Program (drop-in)

Throughout April: 

• Volunteer at The Farm at RRU drop in between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to help care for our gardens. No experience needed. Gloves and Tools provided.
• Visit the RRU Library's Earth Day Displays showcasing both digital collections and physical resources.

The Healthy Planet Program will continue to hold regular outdoor events and stewardship sessions throughout the year! Join us in April, and continue to participate all year long.

Underlying Earth Month at RRU is a powerful message: Earth Day is not just one day, but a daily commitment. The month‑long celebration serves as both an invitation and a reminder that climate action happens through everyday choices, ongoing learning, and sustained community engagement. By bringing people together across disciplines and roles, Earth Month strengthens RRU’s culture of sustainability and reinforces the shared responsibility to care for the planet now and into the future.
