Lloyd Roberston

Lloyd Robertson is CTV's Chief News Anchor and Senior News Editor and last month celebrated his 30th anniversary with the network. As leader of Canada's most-watched newscast, CTV News With Lloyd Robertson, he holds the distinction of being the longest-running national television news anchor in North America. With a broadcast career that spans 53 years, Mr. Robertson has been instrumental in shaping Canadian television news journalism since its infancy, while at the same time bringing into millions of Canadian households the world events that have influenced the country over the past half century.

For many years, Lloyd Robertson has been regarded as one of the most watched and trusted Canadian news personalities. He has won numerous television viewer awards, including the Gemini Award for Best Host, Anchor or Interviewer in 1992, 1994 and 1997; Most Trusted TV Journalist by TV Guide readers for a record 10 times, and Best Anchor twice; Canada's Favourite News Anchor in the first two annual TV Times Readers' Choice Awards in 1998 and 1999; Favourite TV Anchor in NOW Magazine's first Reader Poll; and the Toronto Sun's Reader's Voice Award for Favourite TV Anchor in 1994.

His industry peers have also honoured Mr. Robertson with several awards, including the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Gold Ribbon Award for Broadcast Excellence in 1995/96; The Radio Television News Directors' Association President's Award in 1993; the Central Canadian Broadcasters' Association Broadcaster of the Year in 1992; and in 1998 he was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Hall of Fame, the same year he received the Order of Canada.

Later this month Mr. Robertson will be in Manhattan to receive the prestigious Arts and Letters Award from the Canadian Association of New York.

Prior to joining CTV, Mr. Robertson anchored CBC's national news from 1970 to 1976. He began his broadcasting career a local radio station in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario, in 1952. He moved into television with the CBC in 1954, spending four years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and another two in Ottawa, Ontario, before hosting CBC Weekend in the 1960s.

Over his distinguished career, Mr. Robertson has covered major events such as nine Olympic Games, the repatriation of the Canadian Constitution, the Quebec Referenda, U.S. and Canadian elections, the Gulf War, budget specials, the Terry Fox Run, the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the fall of the Berlin Wall, state funerals, royal weddings, and papal and presidential visits.

Mr. Robertson and his wife Nancy have been married for more than 40 years and have four daughters. They live in Toronto where Mr. Robertson supports many charities, participating every year in The Hospital for Sick Children's Telethon and serving as Honorary Chairperson of the 1992 Terry Fox Run.
