Harley Flack

Harley Flack works in the custodial department at Royal Roads University and is widely known on campus as the janitor, a title he wears with pride. Throughout his time at Royal Roads, he has contributed to the community in various ways, from engaging with students to communicating with staff to ensure operations run smoothly.

Harley believes his perspective as a custodian provides a fresh take on issues affecting the University. Custodial staff often troubleshoot unusual and challenging situations; for example, he and a colleague were once tasked with cleaning up after a sewage pipe blew in the Cedar Building, working in an enclosed area without proper protective equipment. Incidents like this often go unnoticed, and he believes that representation from the janitorial staff can help enlighten Board members about aspects of campus life that might otherwise escape their attention.
