Earthquake and Tsunami Preparedness: Helping BC Be More Resilient

As part of by the Disaster and Emergency Management Lecture Series, join us for a presentation by Christine Buttkus who will provide an overview of the BC Earthquake Alliance Society and its services. 

The session will highlight lessons learned from earthquake and tsunami preparedness education during times of continual change. The presentation will provide visual examples of what we have learned through listening, and how the delivery of new education programs, tools and materials and has deepened engagement. 

We will share the role of multidisciplinary collaboration, blended methodologies and a ‘Connectivist” approach to learning in increased capacity. We will explore how we can increase preparedness for ‘all’ people within a shifting set of resources.

Christine Buttkus

Christine has served as the first Executive Director of the BC Earthquake Alliance Society since 2021. She has held senior leadership roles with a variety of social impact organizations for over 25 years. These roles include serving as an executive director, and consultant, and leading community education campaigns. Her experience includes implementing best and innovative practice initiatives, to enhance well-being and community safety. She has held responsibility for quality and risk management in the health sector that included responsibility for emergency preparedness. Christine holds an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Royal Roads University.
