Design Thinking and the Use of Design Principles

Dr. Axe received Research for Professional Development funds to study the foundations of design thinking, contributing insights into the further development of the new RRU Common Foundations courses.

Dr. Jo Axe used her RPD funds of this grant to fund an RA to conduct a literature search and draft a literature review focused on the development of design principles as a way to inform subsequent practice and contribute to the national conversation. This literature review enabled her to have a more in-depth understanding of the foundations of design thinking, thereby contributing insights into the further development of the new RRU Common Foundations courses, given the strong focus on design thinking in that curriculum. Remaining funds will be used towards knowledge dissemination by way of conference presentations and report publication. The resulting literature review will be used to inform the national conversation on design principles.
