Explores theories of economic development and political change, particularly as these relate to the so-called “developing world”. Introduces concepts and themes such as development economics, modernization, post-colonialism, democratization and globalization and considers the tensions between these and the real-world challenges and conflicts observed in development pathways. Special attention is paid to social movements and their role in influencing political change.
