Building Energy Retrofit Strategies in Community Housing – Holistic Costs and Benefits Analysis
Runa Das was awarded a Research and Professional Development grant to examine energy retrofitting strategies to increase the energy efficiency of the community housing stock.
In response to rising concerns over building performance issues and inefficient energy systems in existing community housing in Canada and their adverse impacts on climate change and urban sustainability, retrofit initiatives are being developed to increase the energy efficiency of the community housing stock (Tsenkova, 2021). Given that energy retrofitting is a multidimensional concept that affects the economy, society, and environment, this research will use a multi-criteria approach for assessing the costs and benefits of different retrofit packages. This research will rank these packages and consider costs and benefits holistically.
