Bree Claude
Doctor of Social Sciences
Board of Governors, Student Candidate
Here is a little bit about me – I have a degree in political science, a Master of Science in Human Ecology, and I am currently a doctoral candidate with Royal Roads University's Doctor of Social Sciences program.
Over the course of my nearly three-decade career, I have been struck by my experiences in trying to move systems forward to create better outcomes for those who need changes the most. I have worked too often in social systems that are stuck and somehow satisfied with their current, less than favourable results and I have been fortunate to also be a part of systems that have nudged, clamored and emerged through changes that have created meaningful, better life outcomes for many more. I have come to appreciate that good governance is part of our successful path forward and I am committed to learning more about how to “do” this better.
My doctoral research is investigating the social interactions of leaders that create conditions to improve safety and wellbeing in Canadian communities.
In my day job(s), I am the vice president of Customer Experience and Community Partnerships with Civida (one of the largest affordable housing management bodies in the province of Alberta) and I am also the executive director of the Civida Housing Foundation.
I have been immersed in social policy and practice for nearly three decades in non-profit and public service environments at both provincial and municipal levels and have held director and executive director roles in the Alberta ministries of Human Services, Seniors and Housing, Advanced Education, Children’s Services and with the municipality of Strathcona County.
I am interested in becoming the student representative for Royal Roads Board of Governors as I am passionate about governance that has a positive and meaningful impact and if elected, I believe I can bring a lifelong learning lens to this role.
I would be honoured to represent the student body in this very important role.
