Anthony von Mandl was born in Vancouver. The son of European immigrants, he considers himself incredibly very fortunate to have been born in Canada. His parents had to flee Europe due to discrimination on the last passenger vessel to depart from Saint-Nazaire for Ellis Island in May of 1940.

He was absolutely convinced, that given time and a relentless pursuit to drive quality, the Okanagan Valley could produce wines that could stand on the world stage, an outrageous goal given the state of the Canadian wine industry at the time.

von Mandl served as the catalyst for sustainable, organic winemaking, agriculture, tourism, and economic development in the Okanagan. His iconic Wineries of British Columbia currently comprises eight wineries and has won prestigious awards, including “World’s Best Chardonnay” and “Best Pinot Noir in the World” in London, and the first-ever perfect 100-point-scores which he has repeated the past six years in a row. Today, is credited with pioneering high-end winemaking in the Okanagan Valley and putting the region on the global map.

His Okanagan Cider Company was the world’s first flavoured ciders based on the Okanagan’s incredible fruit growing reputation and would lead the way for exploring entirely new beverage categories with numerous brands such as Mike’s Hard Lemonade and then, the iconic White Claw Hard Seltzer and today Más+ with soccer legend Lionel Messi, the first next generation hydration plus Drink.

Despite his achievements, von Mandl remains driven and optimistic, always looking towards the future with the belief that there is still much more to accomplish and “we’ve only just begun.”
