Kathleen (Kate) Leslie

Humanitarian Studies

Dr. Kathleen (Kate) Leslie is a registered nurse and a lawyer, and her research focus is on health law and policy as well as innovative online pedagogical practices. Her doctoral work examined the evolution and reform of legislative frameworks for regulating health professions across international jurisdictions and she has published multiple articles on professional regulation. During law school, Leslie completed an internship at the World Health Organization in Geneva focused on mental health law for which she received a fellowship from the American Society of International Law. She also completed a judicial clerkship at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Leslie joined Royal Roads University in 2017.   

 

 

Experience

Leslie has teaching experience in a wide variety of settings since 2010, including online undergraduate and graduate programs, a bridging for internationally educated nurses program, and classroom and clinical settings for nursing students. She has developed and revised multiple graduate courses for online delivery.

Her doctorate was supported by a Canada Vanier Graduate Scholarship. Leslie received the Gold Medal for highest academic standing in both her nursing and law degrees and also received the Governor General’s Silver Medal, among other academic awards and honours. During her PhD, Leslie completed a collaborative program for advanced policy research through the Ontario Training Centre in Health Services and Policy Research.
