School of Tourism and Hospitality Management Prof. Brian White comments on the importance of ancient rainforests to Vancouver Island’s prosperity in the Vernon Morning Star.

Representatives of the Sierra Club BC and Rainforest Rescue recently delivered to the BC Legislature a petition signed by 185,000 people calling for an end to clearcutting in Vancouver Island’s ancient rainforests.

Here is an excerpt:

“Tourists come to Vancouver Island to experience what is missing in so many other parts of the world: intact nature,” said White. “And yet what they find when they get here is big stumps, not big trees. We’re concerned about the impact on tourism businesses.”
